When is the best time of day to work out?

The best time of day to train depends largely on you and your schedule. The benefits of exercise in the morning is that the gym is quieter, so you don't have to wait around to use the equipment. Exercising in the morning also gives some people more energy during the rest of the day.

On the other hand, some people feel stronger when they train in the evening and find the atmosphere of a busy gym motivating. In short, the "best" time of day to exercise depends on you. If you hate training in the morning, then do it in the afternoon and evening. If you have a busy schedule, and work keeps interfering with an evening workout, then get it out of the way first thing in the morning.

The only exception is if you're training for some kind of fitness test. Studies show that fitness gains appear to be "temporal specific". In other words, if you're going to be tested between 2-3pm in the afternoon, then make sure to train at the same time of day.
